Snapdragon BatteryGuru may be a bit of a latecomer to the well-saturated market for battery saver apps, but its ease-of-use and high quality make it worthy of note.
Snapdragon is a model of CPU used in smartphones, and is well known for its high specs and frequent usage in powerful smartphones. Made by Qualcomm.
Up until now, you could divide battery saver apps into two camps: task killers and communications killers. Through different approaches, these two kinds of apps both aim to save battery life by limiting apps still running while the phone is asleep, thereby saving extra power.
BatteryGuru goes one step further and actually controls the CPU itself in order to conserve battery power.
Qualcomm, the maker of the Snapdragon processor, has taken it upon themselves to put out an app for their users that optimizes how the Snapdragon uses power to optimize the phone's power usage.
BatteryGuru offers some of the same features as communications killer apps. While the problem with other battery managers is that they can be slow to connect when coming out of sleep, BatteryGuru still manages to save battery during sleep time while providing quick connection to the network.
This is BatteryGuru's shining point.
It offers the battery saving abilities of a communications killer app while not infringing on the capabilities of your smartphone.
How does it accomplish this? By being smart.
The app relies on learning your usage habits, and thus requires a 2-4 day training period to figure out how the user interacts with their phone and thus optimize the capabilities of the app.
A simple example of this is that, even with sleep periods of equal length, sleep during the night tends to use less battery compared to the afternoon.
Essentially, while you're sleeping, the phone is in near-airplane mode to maximize battery usage, but then when you're about to wake up, the phone changes to a lighter sleep making it easier to find a signal.
Even without bothering with the more detailed settings, you can just install the app and let it do its thing, which it does quite well.
