So there's a new Hello Kitty Battery Saver app available for 480 yen. How does that make you feel?
I'm not particularly interested, to be honest. My niece was a big Hello Kitty fan, but it's just not for me. I'm well trained in the art of battery-fu and know how to keep my phone powered-up throughout the day, so, like I said, why should I care about a new Hello Kitty-branded battery app (nothing personal, all you Hello Kitty-ites)?
Yet, by a chance set of circumstances, I ended up reading the app description for Hello Kitty Battery Saver and found myself thinking:
"Gosh dangit (I don't swear when I talk to myself)! This thing has tons of useful features!"
Impressed with what HKBS promises to do, I bought the app, which stands as my first Hello Kitty-branded purchase in my 31 years on this earth.
This is the app's main screen. A grown man may at first be put off by all the Kitty-chans prancing around, but a closer look shows there's actually a lot of useful stuff going on. This ain't your niece's Hello Kitty; this app is for powerusers.
- Battery: Usage-based battery times and one-touch powersave mode
Not only does it tell you how much time is remaining on your battery, it also tells you the overall "health" of your battery based on temperature and voltage readings.
Also, this app's main feature is its powersave mode, which the makers opted to keep simple as a basic on/off switch. It's simple, but it works.
Powersave modes are becoming standard built-in functions on more recent smartphones, but actually telling you how much time you have left til you run out of juice is a feature that is unfortunately not nearly as common.
- Apps: Multiple app uninstall is the unsung hero of this app
Honestly, I don't know why this self-proclaimed battery app has app management features. Nevertheless, the ability to select multiple apps in one go is awesome.
Spring cleaning for your memory is a piece of cake now that you can pick all the apps you want to uninstall at once rather than having to remove each individually. Got a social app eating up too much of your battery? Might as well take out all those old apps you haven't touched in months. It's easy with HKBS!
- Cleaner: Clean up your memory, tasks, and history with this full-featured cleaning function
Again, I don't know why this feature is included in a battery saver app, but its power and ease-of-use receive no complaints from me! Deleting unnecessary data and stopping apps has the side-effect of improving battery life, so I suppose this function is at least peripherally related.
It also has a scheduling feature, letting you perform regular phone cleanups with ease. This level of functionality is not something I was expecting, but is definitely a pleasant surprise.
HKBS's cleaning feature combines the history deleting power of Balse, the task killing ability of Simple Task Killer Pro, and the memory use optimization of Sakusaku for Android, all in one little app.
And that's not all, there's more!
- It's also super-cute!
And finally, regardless of all the high-tech features included in Hello Kitty Battery Saver, the most obvious thing is that the app is jam-packed full of Hello Kitty cuteness. It also offers a fair amount of appearance customization, as I've shown in the pic above.
This app sports a ton of features, yet each option comes with a short explanation of what it does so that even the newest smartphone users won't feel overwhelmed by options.
In conclusion, Hello Kitty Battery Saver does what its name promises, plus a ton extra, and it does all of it quite well. The price is a bit steep at 480 yen, but when you consider this app as essentially 5 apps rolled into one, the price doesn't sound bad at all.
Welp, I guess in the end I've found out why Kitty-chan is so popular. She's got a lot more going for her than just her looks.
