Starting around the second half of last year, that free chat and talk app LINE has been all over the world of Android with a plethora of sticker packs, tie-ins, and numerous related apps. The stickers and all their unique and funny illustrations especially seem to have been the key to LINE's success.
Some of the characters featured in the original LINE stickers have now made their anime debut on the new LINE OFFLINE Salaryman series, which started on 1/7/2013. The show is broadcast every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday night from 1:30 to 1:35 on TV Tokyo.
The short-form anime follows the trials and tribulations in the daily life of a salaryman (office worker) in Japan. Take a look at the video below for a better idea of what to expect.
With its late broadcast time, LINE OFFLINE is probably aiming for a salaryman audience, and the quick 5-minute episodes make for easy viewing.
With the start of publishing of LINE manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday and Weekly Young Jump, LINE is getting its characters a lot of exposure and will probably try to increase their presence and separate from their humble origins as stickers. LINE sure seems to have a full head of steam coming into 2013, and I see nothing but good things for the franchise in the near future.
