Today we're going to take a look at the new otome romance game Seifuku no Ojisama. All of your potential suitors in this game are over 40 years old and constantly wear the uniform they wear to work. This game is aimed at something of a niche market...
And so I was expecting this game to be a bit half-baked, but I was pleasantly surprised when I started playing that it featured depth, quality, and excellent voice work.
Ojisama is your basic scrolling text adventure style game, but the situations you find yourself in are a bit, shall we say, bizarre.
One day, the main character, a young college student that finds herself dizzy and feverish at the sight of an older man in uniform, finds out she must follow around working middle-aged men to finish a report she needs for work...
A bit strange. She should see a doctor.
And strangely enough, she does see a doctor, which brings us to the above situation where our heroine finds herself at the hands of a ruggedly charming, gray-haired PhD.
Did you recognize his voice? That's none other than Keiji Fujiwara, the voice behind Crayon Shin-chan's dad Hiroshi. As I mentioned earlier, the voice acting is one of this game's strongest points.
There are plenty of romantic targets to choose from, including a doctor, a police officer, a bartender, and even a solider. The options cover pretty much all possible uniform-wearing professionals.
Each character has 9 chapters, and each chapter is further broken down into 10 stories, meaning you'll be playing this game for a while. In order to progress further, however, you need to spend tickets, and you only get 5 free tickets per day, which equates to around 1 chapter every 2 days. Play for free and you're in for quite a marathon.
For those of you who just can't wait that long, there's also the option to pay for more tickets in-game.
The main character has strength and social attributes that need to be increased by doing work. Additionally, you can purchase items to increase your attributes.
Playing completely for free unfortunately means its going to take you a while to get anywhere in the game, but after days and days of playing and repeated in-app purchases, you're finally rewarded with a romantic scene with your target older man.
The quality of the graphics is sure to capture the attention of plenty of girls around the world, but as a near-40-year-old guy, I find them a bit worrisome.
Also, depending on how you play the game, your "vulnerability" attribute changes, which determines whether you get a "passive" ending, "aggressive" ending, or a "friendship" ending. There's a lot to do in this game, which is quite impressive for something you play on your smartphone.
And finally, there is also a "premium" ending available, but you have to win it by chance in a pay-to-play gumball machine... I've already spent way too much money on this game, I think I'll pass...
