There are plenty of apps that add special effects to your camera pics, and now we've finally got one that will convert your images into first-gen NES-style 8-bit images. Let me introduce you to nes camera.
The text is also perfectly done in that old RPG menu style.
The app is simple: start it up, tap the red button on the right side of the screen to take a picture, wait for the 8bit-ification to work its magic, then you're done. If you like what you've made, you can then save it to your camera. There are also zoom buttons below the shutter button, which are a nice added feature.
There are also a number of interesting and well-made frames you can paste over your pictures, from RPG-style menus to classic-looking title screens. There are quite a lot to choose from, so try 'em out of different images to see what you can come up with.
I took a pic of a wireless controller from some other game system, and slapped on an RPG-style frame that says "What in the world is this...?!" Quite a nice collaboration, if I do say so myself...
You can also apply this affect to pics you have stored on your phone and share them with your friends. If your friends aren't fans of manga-style pictures, try sending them some 8bit pictures to cheer them up.
One thing I would like for this app to have would be the ability to change the text in the frames. Remaking famous scenes in popular video game classics with real people and items would be pretty cool.
The app has only just been released, so maybe this feature will be added in a future update.
