Several watch companies have recently announced the release of new smartphone-compatible wristwatches (for example, Xperia SmartWatch and i'm Color).
Casio, a leading company of this field, has also revealed that they will release two smartphone-compatible G-SHOCKs, GB-5600 (on the left in the picture above) and GB-6900AA (right).
Their first smartphone-compatible wristwatch, GB-6900, communicated only to NEC CASIO's MEDIAS series, which would have disappointed many G-Shock fans. However, the new products support iPhone. Casio seems to aim to dominate the smartphone-compatible watch market.
Like the previous model, the new products hook up to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Also, with the original app, you can use the following iPhone 4S Mobile Link Features:
• Notification of incoming calls via the watch
•Finder function to enable iPhone alarm and vibration functions from the watch
• Warning vibration when the watch loses its connection to the iPhone
• Automatic time correction by synchronizing with time data received from the iPhone
• Built-in tilt sensor to detect movement in the watch to automatically reconnect to the iPhone
The new products are, of course, shock-resistant and 20 pressure waterproof like other G-SHOCK models. In addition, the battery life is about 2 years even if you use the Mobile Link features 12 hours a day.
The square shaped GB-5600AA will be available in 4 colors, while the round shaped GB-6900AA in 5 colors. However, unlike the previous model, they will not release red version this time.
Will the support of iPhone by G-SHOCK invite more consumers to the smartphone-compatible wristwatch market?
