Who'da thunk such a tiny tweak would be so darn convenient?
The first line of privacy defense on your phone is the lock screen. Most people lock their screens with passwords or patterns, which can get a little tedious to undo each time you want to use your smartphone.
I'm here to tell you about Unlock With Wifi, a handy little app that lets you skip your lock screen when you are in a specified location, such as at home or work.
When you're at home, you press the power button and your phone is immediately unlocked. When you're somewhere else, you have to go through the lock screen to access your phone.
The app uses your WiFi connection to determine if it is at home or work or wherever. You set up the app so that your phone is automatically unlocked whenever it is connected to a WiFi network that you specify.
It's really easy to setup. When you're connected to the network you want, start up the app, then tap Add -> Add WiFi network, and you're ready to go.
In addition to your lock screen, you can also customize settings for GPS, Bluetooth, and toggling automatic syncing. An example for use with GPS would be turning it off when at home so that, if your tweets are geotagged, your address won't be available to the entire world.
It's a truly basic app but certainly convenient enough to warrant dropping 200 yen for it.
