By now people must know that the Japanese have a thing about weird pets. Some of you might remember our report of an app where you raise a pet poop. I am going to add another app to the list of weird pet apps made in Japan. Ijitte! Chinanago gives you an once-in-a-life-time opportunity to have a pet conger eel. Don't get it wrong. Your objective here is not to eat it. It's to see your beloved eel grow and finally leave his home.
First, open the app and the first thing you do is to name your eel. If you don't have a good name, you can always use the default name, Chinanago. Here, it shows up.
Awww...it's really cute...it is? I guess it kind of is. For your information, Chinanago does exist. There are two things you need to do for your squirmy pet; Touch it to show your love and feed it so it will grow healthily. Here's a little video of me trying to develop a loving relationship with Chinanago.
As you pet it, you will get coins with which you can buy food. Some food has special effects such as to make it grow faster, but you need gold coins to buy it. If you are really into eels and you don't think you can get enough gold coins, they are available for an extra fee.
After it grows to a certain size, you can pull it out from its nest so it will finally leave home. It's really long. You'll be amazed how many times you have to swipe the screen up and down to see the tail of your eel get out of the nest. You will also find a letter from your loved eel.
"Thank you for everything you did for me. Saying good bye to you feels a bit too early as I could stay a little longer and show you how I could grow even bigger. The more you play with your eel, it'll become hungry and the bigger it'll grow. So long, daddy!"
Touching, huh? As you see one eel leave home, you'll have a new kind of eel available. It seems like there are so many different kinds. This one below is the first addition to your collection. It's called Nekoanago, meaning "cat eel" in Japanese.
